A megachurch in Illinois did a study called Reveal in which their own people determined whether the church’s programmes were actually producing life change. The results came back: not so much.
The church discovered that it was doing what so many churches do: splitting life into ‘spiritual life’, and ‘real life’. Bill Hybels leads this church and said:
When I heard these results, the pain of knowing was almost unbearable. Upon reflection, I realised the pain of not knowing could be catastrophic.
I wonder, do I live with this double life, or are my marriage, my job, my relationships, my attitudes, my emotions impacted by the gospel?
I think the only real way to make sure I’m not living a double life is to get properly stuck into a small group of Christians to be honest, be real, pray, and worship God together in.
