This is a funny little comic strip. But it ought to also make us think; I read an article the other day by a very angry atheist who was saying that Christians are stupid for suggesting that atheists don’t have morals, and that he has better morals than most Christians he knows.
In response to the angry atheist, let me agree with him and disagree with him. I don’t know anything at all about him except that he’s angry and an atheist, but if I met his Christian friends I’m sure I’d fully agree that he had better morals than them.
But I’d disagree if he tried to explain that he can hold atheism and morality together in his mind simultaneously; an active rejection of the concept of God (i.e. atheism) naturally requires us to ‘de-personalise’ things like emotion, happiness, and the concepts of good and evil. Without God who am I to suggest that murder, monogamy, terrorism, heterosexuality, rape, education, tolerance, lying, generosity or whatever is good or evil? I’m simply expressing my pointless opinion, as are you.
So I’m thankful I’m a Christian.
