This Christmas break it was my joy to watch the Matrix trilogy. Finally I understood what was going on! I thoroughly enjoyed actually watching the three films without a confused look on my face…until the last five minutes or so, in which I had to ask: ‘is this the matrix? As in, the same matrix as before? Is Neo dead? Is he dead in the matrix? What happened to Zion? Was there peace? I’m still just as confused as I was before! The fight and chase scenes in the second one are incredible though…
And also, how much Christian influence is there in the first movie? Morpheus is called Neo’s, and all true believers’, ‘father’. Neo has to die at the hands of that slithery, snaky character, Agent Smith. Neo is brought back to life through the breath of Trinity. The betrayal is made because Cypher actively chooses materiality (the steak) over reality. As he said himself: ‘ignorance is bliss’. I could go on, but won’t.
