Truth Seeker by Mark Phillips

Truth Seeker is essentially the testimony of Phillips, particularly focusing on his quest through New Age mysticism. He encountered pretty much every aspect of the New Age, and used all his cold logic and personal experiences to discover Truth.
The book is simply but well written. It’s easy and pleasant to read, but the writing style isn’t poetic or really that interesting. That being said, the content is fascinating. Phillips’ experiences are extraordinary, and I’m sure unbelievable for the closed-minded reader, and his attitude towards Christianity (i.e. it’s outdated and irrelevant) reflects very well the attitude of many non-Christians.
The logic is flawless. Phillips spends the vast majority of the book explaining what he believed and why, and unfortunately these two points (his experiences and the logical explanations) lead to a danger I think.
A hesitant Christian with little faith and an interest in mysticism could discover very dangerous paths very easily with this book, despite the fact that the underlying conclusion drawn by the author is that you can’t find the truth. He finds you, and his name is Jesus. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Passenger profiling

Just read an article in The Guardian. Two points:
1. Misleading headlines annoy me. The headline was something like ‘racial and religious groups to be searched at airports’ when the content said that airport security may include suspicious behaviour in deciding whether to search people, in addition to random searches. Of course, this would enable staff to choose to search particular religious or racial groups – Muslims, for example.
2. People seem to have a massive problem with being searched ‘just because they’re Muslim, but seem to miss the point. Would you rather be searched, or be dead? A lot of terrorism currently is under the guise of some sort of Islam, so it’s natural to be more suspicious of Muslims – of course it is! Don’t be angry at airport security for being more suspicious of you, be angry at the idiot terrorists who claim Islam as their reason for doing it! I’m sure that during WWII Germans would have been treated in the same way. Not all Germans were Nazis, but the Nazis claimed Germany as the Fatherland. To make it safer for everyone, security may need to be a bit biased.
